in the traffic center. >> good morning. we're gonna start off in daly city, northbound 280 as you come up to hickey boulevard. there's an injury crash blocking the two left lanes and the traffic leaving south san francisco getting up to daly city or if you are trying to get up to san francisco on 280, it will be a tough one. southbound 280 will be slow past the scene as you can clearly see the crash there. there's another problem on 680 southbound this morning. we had an earlier crash at 24. it was blocking lanes a little bit. and 680 was backed up, stop and go to walnut creek. if you are driving to some of the other major spots, give yourself plenty of time. this is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza and the traffic here is going to be pretty busy. it's backed up for about a 20- minute delay before you make it through. on 880, it's a little bit wet but so far this commute looks all right as you try to get into downtown oakland. stay with us. we have expanded traffic and weather all morning long. let's go to steve. >>> all right, sal. thank you. our system is moving in. there's not a lot

. >>> an unprecedented tragedy in santa cruz. two veteran police officers shot to death. they are the city's first officers to be killed in the line of duty. we have team coverage. ktvu's janine de la vega is learning more about the officers and getting community reaction. but we begin with tara moriarty with new information on the shooting and the suspect. tara? >> reporter: we understand the suspect lived a couple of houses down the street. behind me is actually doyle street. police say after the suspect killed two officers over on branciforte drive, he came here and it appears he was shot in front of this garage. now, there were too many bullet holes to count. several garages are strung together in this complex and at least half of them were riddled with holes, chunks of one door even missing. we also spotted bullet holes on a nearby van. two cars were towed earlier this morning from the scene. one of them had two bullet holes through the front windshield. loren baker and elizabeth butler were both killed during a confrontation yesterday afternoon about a mile from the beach on branciforte aven

, the city of san jose decided to turn off 900 street lights throughout the day. there were some on roads and also in residential neighborhoods. the decision was made because of the budget. the city just reviewed their budget report and in that, it was decided that turning the lights on should be a priority. $44,000 has been set aside for the equipment and the maintenance of the lights. some residents had no idea the streets were darked on purpose. they reacted to the news this morning. >> they put the money to light up everything, it's good. it's good for people's safety. >> reporter: starting in march, approximately 225 street lights will be turned on each month which should improve public safety as well as the appearance of the roads. it's unknown which streets will city wants residents to be patient. coming up in the next hour of "mornings on 2," hear from a woman who said she was forced to be in the dark early in the morning while she waited to get to work. we'll explain -- coming up. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> 7:05. oakland police inves

a battle tonight during the city council this evening. according to the chronicle, the residents approved of the plan to build the new homes but they don't like the plans to bring down the magnolia trees and the chilean trees. earlier this year, the planning commission approved that plan but it's gone back and forth and gone back to appeal twice now and they are planning ong having that meeting later on this evening. there are 25 residents here banning together who say they want the trees to stay here. that's where we stand. pretty big lot. the planning commission meeting expected to begin tonight at about 7:00. we are live here in menlo park. brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, brian. >>> 7:05. breaking news.
